Keys to Immortality

Oh the wonders of youth, beauty and immortality. As long as time has been recorded I believe that people have concerned themselves with how other people within their own community or others across the world have seemed to out live each other. How do we live forever? How does the economy play it's role in this? How long is forever? These are the questions I would like to ask and answer today in my own way. I am open to any one's thoughts and everyone is welcome here to express what they believe.

First off I believe that youth comes from the lack of deterioration on the genetic coding of DNA. DNA has telomeres on the ends of the chromosomes which keeps the DNA protected and encapsulated. When the telomeres are sustained genetic code remains in tact. It is when those telomeres start to unravel and shorten due to factors such as food, environment, stress of all types, and time is when we of course begin our aging process. Every cell has a mitotic clock telling when it is time for that cell to divide into two new daughter cells. When our cells are in that division stage it is important that they are not mutated due to an enzyme called telomerase thus allowing them to begin to grow unregulated and without dividing resulting in tumors that become immortal due to the lack of shortening. The telomeres regulated the number of divisions a cell can have. Now as the cell divides the telomeres begin to shorten with each division. There comes a time when it becomes so short that the DNA can no longer be contained within the chromosome resulting in the its breakdown releasing the DNA which thus causes aging.

Often if we have too many free radicals in our bodies this is another contributing factor as to how all of our cells begin to start breaking down. Our bodies do create some free radicals in order to kill off viruses and bacteria. These are regulated with the addition of antioxidants incorporated through our diet. Free radical damage can accumulate with age thus having Vit. C and E are believed to be of importance as they are both antioxidants that can stop most free radicals. It is important however to find the correct balance. Eating multiple servings of fruits and vegetables a day is the best route and is highly recommended.

In search of answers I have filtered through the Internet to find logical and scientific evidence. I have discovered that a lower caloric intake increases life span. This is due to the fact that the aging process slows down with a limit on dietary energy intake. One must recognize how important it is to still continue to eat sufficient quantities of vitamins and minerals with protein. The results led to lower cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose, and lower blood pressure. Keep in mind you never want to starve, eat just have enough food that your body actually needs in order to function properly. If you starve your body it will start to consume lean tissue and muscle along with fat reserves. Overeating is very harmful because your body will not be able to breakdown nutrients as quickly as your are consuming it. This will end up being stored as fat, clogging your circulatory system. Find the right balance. Take care of your body and your mind to see an improvement over your quality of life.

Turtles I have found to be quite fascinating in that their is no record of how long they actually live. Unlike humans and birds a turtle continues to grow as it ages. Their important parts of their bodies do not become weak with age. As they age they grow very slowly and also require very little dietary energy intake to survive. Their reproductive ability reaches maturity very late in their lives while early years are spent developing their shells. When the DNA is studied one can see that their telomeres remain intact with no influence of shortening. They are resistant to tumors. These creatures usually die from environmental consequences. As one biologist is studying how turtles seem to be immortal. I find what he has to offer quite inspiring. Here is a link to the article. Written by Barry Yeoman
http://www.barryyeoman.com/articles/turtles.html . His theory is that some reptiles may receives short bursts of telomerase in their early youth which are healthy cells that protect the telomeres from shortening thus resulting in immortality.

With that in mind how is it that the economy will contribute to this. Well the supply and demand for certain things in life will be upset. If we live forever the drug companies will go out of business. People would probably stop reproduction so toy industries and baby industries will shut down. There will no longer be a such a high demand for doctors. I believe that this will also be beneficial as that the consumer will now have more money to consume goods. They will pay attention having better eating habits and enhance their lives all together. Perhaps we may become more advanced toward our environment in the go-green movement. I believe that if immortality become profitable then our economy will have it readily available.

To propose forever leads to infinity. I see that until we do become immortal that remains unanswered. Looking forward to a time when stories of immortality become reality.

Economic crisis

In today's economic crisis people must wonder how they have become a product of society letting themselves take shape into what it wants them to be- The American Dream. I was supposed to go to college, get a job, get married, have kids and go about my mundane routine, retire and redefine myself at the age of 67 with only about 20 years left to live. If I saved enough money for retirement, then I could do what I have always wanted, right? Can this really work if you follow society’s guidelines or do we fail even if we adhere? With today’s consistent advances in technology how do we apply traditional values to new concepts of efficiency and newly formed skills based off systems that have only existed for a few months?

These are all questions that I am sure people ponder but push into the back of their minds as they continue to work towards accomplishing their dreams. I go against the grain at times while attempting financially stability and maybe that is why I am just above drowning in debt and eating canned food. My dreams in life have varied from race driver, to actor, motivational speaker, to esteemed boyfriend, husband and one day excellent father. At what cost do these dreams come? Personal experience sheds light that they are found mainly on inheritance, social connections and working your life away. In the path I chose I find myself having to conform at certain times to society’s "money and social structure" in order to have my dreams come true while I crave discovering other ways that are more conducive to reaching my goals.

When a company hires it must weight how much of a priority a person can be due to the fluctuation of the technological boom. This sets a grand divide between those whose skills must be trained and developed against those who formerly grew up with a lifestyle integrating these skills required for these job positions. My perspective is that companies are categorizing youthfully skilled adults as more profitable because they take less time learning, less pay and are more productive. However what happens when they too become obsolete and have no choice but to find their next career? Computer systems are outdated within 1-2 years of each other in which any attempt to discover what the new guidelines for company profitability and new skill requirements are, can get lost within such a short time frame of changing technology. Thus surviving in the job market with continued education becomes vital to keep one’s social bearing and status. What's your opinion?
